My dearest Louise,
As you know, we are up to some good, clean fun in our corner of the Armitage Army right now. Our #SecretCupid project is well under way and while I am still waiting for my modest contribution to reach its destination
grumblegrumble, hurry up EU mail system, I have been lucky enough to receive the gift my generous Cupid has sent me. Joy!!!
My Secret Cupid was Olga and I had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of my package since she told me she sent it. It made the long way from Russia in excellent time and so on Thursday I got to unwrap it. And boy, was there unwrapping.
The gift was in a bunch of packaging materials not unlike a Russian doll. How fitting.
Such excitement. With each layer I got closer to the prize inside. Look at the beautiful flower pattern on the inside bag and then the first present—because let’s face it: A purple pouch, sewn especially for me as packaging for the contents, is a gift in itself.
Inside, we get to the first nifty gifty—my Secret Cupid present.
If you know me at all, you can tell by this first glimpse already that I am going to love it: Claude Monet. Love this painter, love Richard’s portrayal of him in The Impressionists, one of his most underrated and joyful roles and a pure delight IMHO. The excitement ratcheted up a notch.
I should have made a video to do this ingenious piece of fan art justice, but I didn’t have the patience to futz with a camera and tripod setup and find time and a place away from people
I cannot do this if anyone is around to hear me record, so unfortunately you’ll have to make do with photos. Thank you to Olga for the first picture. I just realized had forgotten to photograph to overall inside view.
The card opens up to two beautifully decorated halves: RA on one side and For Kate on the other half. Both halves open up and reveal a picture on the inside. The RA side features a gorgeous stubbly Richard (#TeamLawn will approve!) while the For Kate side has a screenshot of The Impressionists with Richard as Claude Monet in one of my favorite scenes—staring in awe and wonder at the sunrise. #sigh When folding out the photo, you get to yet another layer of the card that features a red, velvety heart. It is so intricate that I folded it the wrong way the first time I tried to close it back up. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! Thank you so much, Olga! <3<3<3
So, that’s my secret cupid. But that’s not all. The package contained another beautiful gift.
If you read Russian, you already know what this is. It is a birthday present. Olga and I almost share a birthday and exchanged gifts this year, which was lovely. Here is what she gave me.
Would you look at this absolutely fantastic silk scarf? It’s luxurious. It’s purple. It has a flower design. I could not be happier. You have really spoiled me, dear Olga. A thousand hugs and kisses for this wonderful gift.
It is even more special because Olga put such thought into it. This scarf comes from Pavlovsky Posad, a small Russian town that is an important center of the textile industry and especially known for its shawls. Please check out this link if you’d like to know more: Pavlovo Posad shawl
Well, all I can say is that I feel very lucky and blessed to be part of this great community. Thank you to all of you for participating and thank you to Olga for this treasure!
